Hoodlums storm Abayi Police station in Aba, Abia state

Interviewed residents suggested that suspected criminal elements whose colleagues were previously arrested and detained, angrily came visiting the police station fully armed, to free their members from custody.

This attempt however resulted in a fierce gun duel, with the Abayi police station totally set ablaze. The residents further stated that they are currently being subjected to dehumanizing harassments and random mass arrests by the police.

Meanwhile, the Abia State police authorities have readily promised paying one million naira (N1,000,000.00) ransom to anyone that could provide clues that would assist the officers in unravelling the identities of the perpetrators.

The State Government has imposed a 6am to 7pm curfew till further notice.
